Solvosilicate; SSPL/ETHYL-S (P1)Two component, Inorganic Zinc Silicate coating.
Features | High Zinc content, heavy duty primer, offering excellent corrosion protection in highly aggressive environments. | | Based on unsaponifiable resins with excellent solvent resistance and hence recommended as a tank coating. | | Excellent water resistance. | | Can withstand substrate temperatures ranging from-900C to + 6000C. | | Good resistance to saline and marine atmosphere. | | Not suitable for immersion in alkaline (more than pH 9) or acidic (less than pH 5) liquids without suitable top coats. | | Technical DataColour | Grey | Gloss | Matt | Volume solids | Approx. 66% | Recommended DFT | 60-75 microns | Covering capacity | 11.00 Sq.mtr/ltr. @ 60 Microns DFT
18.80 Sq.mtr/ltr. @ 75 Microns DFT | Drying Time | Surface Dry: 30 Min, Hard Dry: 16 hours, Full Cure: 7 days | Over Coating Interval | Min. 16 hours, Max. unlimited with proper surface preparation | Shelf Life (cool & dry place) | Liquid portion: atleast 6 months, Power portion: atleast 12 months | Flash Point | Liquid-Not less than 150C, Powder – above 650C | | Over Coating Procedure | Non weathered zinc silicate coatings are porous and popping and may occur in the subsequent coats. To reduce the risk of popping, apply a mist coat as the first pass to the subsequent coat, let the air escape and then apply the rest of the system. | | Zinc silicate primers, when exposed for extended periods of time without proper top coating, will start showing while rust formation. These “White Rust” spots are zinc corrosion products. The extent of white rust formation will depend on the period of exposure of the zinc silicate coating and hot nature of the surrounding environment. Prior to application of the subsequent coats, it is necessary to ensure removal of the white rust. | | Directions for Use Surface Preparation & Substrate condition
| Steel: Blast clean to min Sa 2.5 of Swedish specification. Ensured substrate is completely free from rust, scale, shop primer and other contaminants. Blasting profile: (Rz) 40 –70 microns. | | Galvanised Steel: Sweep blast to roughen the surface and remove any zinc salts that may be present. | | Heavily pitted steel is not acceptable. | | Substrate temperature must be minimum 5°C and atleast 3°C above dew during application. | | Relative humidity should be above 40%. | | Mixing | Do not open packing immediately before use. The entire content of the two packing must be used for each batch to ensure correct mixing. | | Shake the plastic carboy (4 ltrs) containing hydrolysate to remove settling and to form uniform mixture. | | Loosen the settled material if any in liquid portion in 20 ltrs. carboy with the help of hand stirrer followed by power driven stirrer for quick homogenous mixing. Then combine and mix are as follows. | |
Mixing Ratio | Liquid–40 : Powder-60
Add the Zinc dust (Powder portion) gradually to the container with hydrolysate (liquid portion) and mix using a mechanical stirrer. Stir the zinc dust thoroughly in the liquid (Do not mix in reverse order. It may result in lump formation in the paint). Strain the mixture through a 40–60 mesh screen.
Induction Time | None | Pot Life at 300C | 6 hours | Application | Conventional spray Recommended Thinner (for application and cleaning) | SOLVO-THIN | Volume of Thinner | 10-15% | Nozzle Orifice | 2.0 mm | Nozzle Pressure | 0.3 mpa (=approx.atm, p.s.i.) | Airless Spray Recommended Thinner (for application and cleaning) | SOLVO-THIN | Volume of Thinner | 0-10% | Nozzle Orifice | 0.48-0.64 (=0.019-0.025 inch) | Nozzle Pressure | 15 mpa (=approx, 150 atm, 2100 p.s.i.)
| Maintain constant agitation of the mixture until the batch is depleted. | | The spray gun should be at a sufficient distance from the surface to get a wet and smooth coating after application. Besides using a correct spray technique, the amount of thinner added must be carefully adjusted to secure optimum film formation. The coating must be wet and smooth just after application. | | Please refer to field guidelines for the application of Inorganic Zinc rich coatings for further details. | | Storage and Packing Storage Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from direct sunlight & contact with water. Store in accordance with local regulations.
Packing 20 ltrs. and 4 ltrs. Safety InformationAs a general safety measure, inhalation of solvent vapours of paint mist and contact of liquid paint with skin & eyes should be avoided. Forced ventilation should be provided when applying paint in confined spaces or stagnant air. Even when ventilation is provided respiratory, skin and eye protection are always recommended when spraying paint.
